The heart of College Park is the main campus of the University of Maryland. While it has much of the feel of a traditional college town, it also has an urban feel that comes from close proximity to Washington, DC (there's a Metro station in College Park). The Comcast Center (sports arena) and Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center bring thousands of visitors to town on a regular basis.
