Laurel started as a mill town on the banks of the Patuxent River, found popularity with the Laurel Park horse racing track and is now a major suburb in the Washington/Baltimore corridor. The city has seen major growth in recent years as people discover how easily accessible it is from Baltimore, Washington, DC, Fort Meade, Columbia, Greenbelt and Annapolis.
