The rugged geography of Badlands National Park makes it pretty obvious how it got its name. The park is over 240,000 acres of unique geological formations, grasslands and one of the world's biggest collections of fossils. Badlands is deep in the heart of unpopulated South Dakota, not far off I-90 about 60 miles east of Rapid City and 85 miles east of Mount Rushmore.
