The Jefferson Memorial is the national tribute to Thomas Jefferson, the country's third president and the primary author of the Declaration of Independence. The memorial is on the banks of the body of water known as the Tidal Basin, where the statue of Jefferson faces due north toward the Washington Monument and the White House. It's not the easiest monument in town to get to on foot - you have to take a walk around the basin - but it's worth a visit.
