The Cheeca Lodge & Spa reopened in December 2009 following an 11-month renovation (due to a fire in December 2008). A new "Main Lodge" is the home of 62 "Premier Oceanfront" and "Island View" suites. The 840 square foot suites, with 24 foot wide balconies, are some of the largest hotel rooms in the Florida Keys. The new building keeps the traditional Keys architecture and West Indies decor, while using LEED specifications to make things a bit more "green". The Main Lodge also features a new lobby bar and two restaurants, Atlantic's Edge and the Nikai Sushi Bar.
