The W New York Downtown is the latest addition to the group of “W” hotels in Manhattan, the places where the “W” phenomenom started. This one is located in the heart of the Financial District at the corner of Washington and Albany Streets. It has 217 guest rooms and 223 “W residences” for those who want to experience the “W lifestyle” on a year-round basis.
The design theme for the W New York Downtown can best be described as “glassy modern”. The hotel rises above a 5-story glass “podium”/atrium that houses a massive “light shower” installation suspended from the ceiling. It’s one of those “words can’t accurately describe” scenes. There’s more light trickery on display in the Living Room Bar and Terrace, with thousands of feet of programmed dancing LEDs in the fifth-floor lounge.
On-site eating is highlighted by the BLT Bar & Grill, with a bar and indoor/outdoor seating on the street level and a primary dining room on the second floor. You’ll find a more extensive menu, including salads, pastas, pizzas, sandwiches and more in the upper level.
The 217 guest rooms at the W New York Downtown includes 16 Studio Suites, one WOW suite and two “Extreme WOW” suites. Think of an “Extreme WOW” as the equivalent of a “Presidential Suite” with all the modern touches you expect at a W – taken to the ultimate level. All rooms and suites include feature-top mattresses, goose down comforters and pillows, an state-of-the-art in-room entertainment system and a well-stocked “Munchie Box” (aka the mini bar).
The 223 “Residences at W New York” are definitively modern condiminiums, with 64 of them fully furnished and ready to live in. Residents get access to all of the hotel’s amenities plus resident-only rooftop terrace, lounge, screening room and fitness room.
