Acadia National Park consists of over 47,000 acres of forests, lakes, ponds and beautiful rocky coastline on Maine's Atlantic Ocean coast. The park fills most of Mount Desert Island (a bridge connects the island with the mainland) and a few smaller adjacent islands. Acadia was the first national park created west of the Mississippi River, in 1919.
