Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge is the largest refuge in the eastern United States, containing over 400,000 acres along the Georgia-Florida border. Over 350,000 acres in the refuge are designated the Okefenokee Wilderness, providing additional protection for a wide variety of wildlife, including birds, bears, bobcats and alligators. The main entrance to the refuge is on the eastern side near the town of Folkston. The privately-operated Okefenokee Swamp Park provides access on the northern side near Waycross, Georgia.
