Hilton Lexington Downtown Now Open

Hilton Hotels has announced the official opening of the “new” Hilton Lexington/Downtown in downtown Lexington, Kentucky.  We put “new” in quotes because the hotel was previously known as the “Lexington Downtown Hotel & Conference Center”.  An extensive $13 million renovation that started back in March is now complete and brings noticeable upgrades to half of the hotel’s 367 guestrooms and communal spaces including the lobby, atrium and the Grand Kentucky Ballroom.

Not surprisingly, the design of the changes emphasizes the landscape of the Kentucky countryside and the importance of the horse business.  The five-story atrium features locally created artworks including a rotating series of photos by photographer Doug Prather.  The atrium also features a three-story water fountain made of 10,000+ hand-cut bits of colored glass.

Additional renovations are expected to conclude in 2010.
