One of the most popular uses of TheRealPlaces.com is to find places to stay near hundreds of hospitals and other medical facilities all over the United States. We update our system with new hospitals on a regular basis and we’re highlighting just a few today.
One of the biggest hospital moves in recent US history happened earlier this month when the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital opened in Indianapolis. The $700 million project replaces Wishard Memorial Hospital, just a couple blocks to the east. The hospital is named in honor of developer Sidney Eskenazi and his wife Lois, who made a more-than-generous contribution of $40 million to the effort. In addition to 319 in-patient beds, 19 operating rooms and a massive emergency room complex the new Eskenazi Health campus includes a separate outpatient care center and a 2,700 car parking garage. It’s located at the western edge of the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus and is in the middle of a larger health-centric neighborhood that also includes the Roudebush VA Medical Center and the Riley Hospital for Children. The closest collection of places to stay near Eskenazi Hospital is less than a mile away in downtown Indianapolis.
Just a couple thousand miles west of Indianapolis is Santa Rosa, California, scheduled to receive a new hospital in the near future. Construction of the Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa has been underway for several years and will open in 2014. It is located just off of Route 101 (Redwood Highway) a few miles north of downtown Santa Rosa. The $284 million hospital will offer a full complement of medical services to the region.
We also include a large number of “specialty hospitals” in our database, including rehabilitation hospitals. The HealthSouth organization has opened two new rehab facilities this year. HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Denver is in the southern suburb of Littleton, Colorado. Meanwhile, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital at Martin Health is located in Stuart, Florida and provides rehabilitation services to the portion of Florida’s Atlantic coast between Jupiter and Port St. Lucie.
