Today’s featured city is Asheville, North Carolina, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains where the Swannanoa and French Broad Rivers come together. Interstate routes I-40 and I-26 also meet here, before heading across the mountains to the north of town (I-26) or to the west toward Knoxville (I-40). Asheville is probably best known as the home of the enormous Biltmore Estate. It’s also a trendy place to live with a “vibrant music scene”.
It’s a 115 mile drive from Asheville to Knoxville, 125 miles east to Charlotte and 165 miles south to Columbia, South Carolina.
