Allentown is the third-largest city in the state of Pennsylvania, located about 50 miles north of downtown Philadelphia. The city saw its largest growth in the 19th century when a wide variety of heavy industries came to town. In recent years it has gained accolades for the redevelopment of its downtown area. Allentown is near the mid-point of the trip on I-78 between New York City and Harrisburg.
