When the Indiana Convention Center opened in 1972 it was called the "Indiana Convention-Exposition Center" and included three exhibit halls and around 123,000 square feet of space. Four expansion projects over the following 40 years increased the size of the convention center to 11 exhibit halls, 71 meeting rooms and three ballrooms totaling over 740,000 square feet. The most recent expansion was completed in January 2011 and consumed the adjacent land formerly occupied by the Hoover Dome/RCA Dome stadium. The center is connected to Lucas Oil Stadium by a covered walkway.
