Heinz Field opened in 2001 as the new home of the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL) and the University of Pittsburgh ("Pitt") Panthers (NCAA college football, Big East Conference). Heinz Field is part of a two stadium complex (along with PNC Park, home of major league baseball's Pirates) that replaced Three Rivers Stadium on the banks of the Ohio River.
