Aloft Harlem Opens In New York City

The trendy, lofty Aloft hotel chain has opened the Aloft Harlem, claiming to be the first chain hotel to open in Harlem in over a century.  Now, we’re not so sure there were many hotel chains a hundred years ago, but we’ll admit it’s undoubtedly been a long time since anyone built a hotel in this part of New York City.  The Aloft Harlem is about a block away from the 125th Street subway station (on the A, B, C and D lines) and just three blocks east of Columbia University.

There are now over 40 Aloft hotels around the world, featuring “urban-influenced, modern, open and vibrant design”.  The Aloft Harlem has 124 guest rooms with a loft-like feel and is part of a new mixed-use development project that also includes the Apex condominiums and retail space.

The Aloft Harlem is offering a couple of incentives to entice New York City visitors.  Aloft is part of the Starwood family of hotels and guests will accumulate double “Starwood Preferred Guest points” for every visit until March 31, 2011.  You’ll also get a $20 voucher to use at the hotel’s xyz bar or the re:fuel by Aloft pantry.
