Comfort Suites Downtown Atlanta Opens

The Comfort Suites Atlanta Downtown/Convention Center opened just in time to be available for New Year’s visitors to Atlanta.  It’s the first Comfort Suites to be built in downtown Atlanta and is the chain’s first experiment in “adaptive reuse”.  It’s built inside a century-old building that was expanded to 16 stories for the 1996 Summer Olympics.  Custom-built inside, it keeps the exterior intact, making it a unique part of the Comfort Suites family.

The interior design choices for the 156 guestrooms were made with the hotel’s urban location in mind.  The color palette is heavy on creams, browns, amber and teal.  The suites are a bit larger than “industry standard”, featuring separate bedroom and living spaces.  Each room has a marble wet bar, sleeper sofa, free Wi-Fi internet access, LCD HDTV, and the latest in super-comfy Comfort Suites bedding.

The Comfort Suites Downtown has 1,500 of its own meeting space, but it’s just a few blocks southeast of the enormous Georgia World Congress Center and its 3.9 million square feet of meeting and exhibit space.  The convention center is at the heart of a heavily-visited district that also includes the Georgia Dome (home of the Atlanta Falcons), Philips Arena (home of the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Thrashers),  Centennial Olympic Park and CNN Center.
